New Vice Chancellor Takes Over, Says it’s Time to Move BUK Forward
Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas took over as the 11th Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano at the formal handing over ceremony that took place on Monday, 17th August, 2020 at the new Senate Chambers.
Sagir, a Professor of Mathematics was appointed by the University Council on Saturday, 8th August, 2020.
The new Vice Chancellor, who took over from Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello vowed to lead transparent administration, saying that through consultation, team work and commitment, he is ready to move the BUK forward.
Prof Abbas heaped praises on the outgoing Vice Chancellor whose tenure recorded massive transformations in the university. He told the large gathering that he would try as much as possible to follow the good steps of his predecessors who had put the University in the right track.
The new VC commended Professor Bello for serving Bayero University with all sense of commitment and dedication, describing him as the person with the best knowledge of BUK.
“He was my teacher at the undergraduate level. He has served Bayero University diligently and giving his antecedents, he will continue to give his utmost contributions for the betterment of the system,” said Prof Abbas.
The 11th VC expressed his gratitude to the University Council for appointing him and thanked all members of the University community for supporting him, saying that “by the grace of God, I will not fail you.”
In his brief handing over remarks earlier, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Bello said he was extremely happy that it was the first time in the history of the University that a vice chancellor took over from his teacher directly.
He urged members of the University to extend the same support he enjoyed, saying that BUK’s strength was its dedicated staff who at all times ready to serve it better. He said there was the need for all the stakeholders to work together to move BUK to greater heights.
