GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• A minimum of 48 credit units is required for Ph.D programmes of which 30 credit unis are from Masters programme, 6 credit units from coursework and 12 credit units from the thesis.
• All M.Phil/Ph.D and Ph.D candidates are required to undergo a course in computer applications at the Centre for Information Technology of the University.
• A minimum of thirty (30) credits, including 6 from a dissertation, is required for an academic Masters degree.
• For Postgraduate Diplomas, the Minimum number of credits shall be 24 including, where applicable, a Long Essay, which shall not be allocated more than 4 credits, except under special circumstances e.g. PGD in Engnieering.
• Any student who records less than 75% attendance in a course shall be prevented from writing the examination.
• All courses shall be examined at the end of the semester in which they are taught. All question papers and marked scripts of taught courses shall be moderated by an external examiner appointed by the Senate.
• The pass mark for all Postgraduated courses shall be 50% or a grade of C.
• A candidate who fails more than one third of the total coursework credits registered for in a session shall be required to withdraw from the programme. A candidate who fails not more than one third of the total credits registered for in a session shall carry over the failed courses.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCESS

• Application for admission into courses of study leading to Postgraduate degree or diplomas should be on prescribed forms approved by the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies the forms shall be obtained in ways prescribed by the University form time to time and payment of the prescribed application fee.
• Application shall normally be made in response to official advertisements. It is the responsibility of the candidate seeking admission to ensure that all the information and documents required in the prescribed forms are supplied to reach the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies no later than the advertised deadline.
• All candidates must submit the names of three referees, two of whom must be in position to provide judgment o the academic ability of the candidates to undertake the proposed courses.
• All candidates should ensure that the referees return the reports directly to the School of Postgraduate Studies.

• All candidates must also ensure that the official transcript of academic records reach the School of Postgraduate Studies within the stipulated time.
• The Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies shall submit all application forms to Heads of the relevant Departments.
