Director
Prof. Zubairu Iliyasu
The centre for infectious diseases research (CIDR) is one of the centres established by Bayero University Kano in 2015. The current management team was appointed in January 2016 (Prof. Zubairu Iliyasu, Director: Prof. Abdulsalam Yayo Manu, Deputy Director I: Dr. Haruna Muhammad Awaisu, Deputy Director II). It is located within the College of Health Science premises at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Programmes...
The centre’s mission is : To strengthen health systems towards combating infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa through cutting edge research and capacity building.
Research
These include research into: Bacteriology, virology, parasitology, Immunology, vaccine production and immunization with specific interest in endemic diseases such as Malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS.
Training
The centre builds human resource capacity for health, particularly: Strengthening quality assurance in good laboratory practice and good clinical practice in the control of infectious diseases.
Consultancy Services
Has consultants that offer services relating to infectious diseases management and control, health impact assessment, vaccine development, immunization, clinical trials.

The centre is currently working together with the Department of Community Medicine, Bayero University on a 46,300 UK Pounds Infection control
University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa
The CIDR has established partnership with the School of Public Health, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa to co-supervise and host their postgraduate students.
Global Consortium on Public Health Research
On July 26th 2016, the Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) hosted a 2 day global health partnership meeting
Universiti Putri, Malaysia
CIDR researchers are also involved in the supervision of post-graduate students (MSc and PhD) from the Universiti Putra, Malaysia.
