Salamatu Waziri Saleh

The Career Guidance and Counselling Unit at Bayero University provides essential guidance and counselling services to students and staff, addressing psychological, personal, social, educational, and vocational challenges. Collaborating with external agencies and various university departments, the unit ensures access to vital services. It organizes annual orientation programs for students, new staff, and retiring staff to maximize their benefits. The unit also conducts sensitization missions to raise awareness about its services, manages psycho-educational crises, and handles behavior disorders through effective counselling interventions. Additionally, it participates in general university orientation, organizes hostel orientation for new students, and manages skills acquisition activities. The aim is to help students understand themselves and their environment better, achieve academic success, and address various life challenges. The objectives include facilitating excellence in student endeavors, establishing ties between education and the working world, and providing preventive and intervention strategies for managing disruptive behaviors among students.

Aim: To enable students have better understanding of themselves and their environment. To enable students become successful academically and assist them in vocational, educational and personal/social challenges.

Objectives: To facilitate the attainment of excellence in all positive aspects of human/students endeavour. To establish close ties between education and the working world and guide the individual towards the occupation which is best suited to his aspirations and aptitudes. To provide preventive approaches as well as intervention strategies for the prevention, management and control of disruptive forms of behaviour among students.

The Counselling Unit at Bayero University has dedicated counselling offices to provide support and services. These offices are located within the unit itself and at the students’ halls of residence across two campuses. Additionally, there is a Skills Acquisition Corner to help students develop practical skills. These facilities ensure that students have easy access to the guidance and counselling services they need.

These offices are strategically located to ensure that students have convenient access to the guidance and counselling services they need, right where they live. This setup helps in addressing students’ psychological, personal, social, educational, and vocational challenges more effectively.

The Skills Acquisition Corner at Bayero University's Counselling Unit is designed to help students develop practical skills that complement their academic learning. This initiative aims to enhance students' employability and self-reliance by offering training and workshops on various skills. It provides a hands-on approach to learning, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the job market and entrepreneurial ventures.
