The department of Electrical Engineering currently runs the following programmes:-

BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (B. Eng) PROGRAMME – ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The minimum duration of the B. Eng programme is five (5) academic sessions (10 semesters) for candidates admitted into Level 100 with SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent qualifications.
Candidates admitted through Direct Entry (Level 200) shall spend a minimum of four (4) academic sessions (8 semesters) provided they satisfy all University and Faculty regulations.

The maximum duration of the programme is 14 semesters for Level 100 entrants and 12 semesters for Direct Entry candidates.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD) IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The PGD in Electrical Engineering is designed as a bridging/conversion programme for holders of HND or degrees in related disciplines who wish to upgrade their qualifications or transition into professional Electrical Engineering practice. The programme consists of taught coursework and a supervised project. The duration of the PGD is two (2) academic semesters for full-time students, and a maximum of four (4) semesters may be allowed where necessary.

MASTER OF ENGINEERING (M. Eng) IN POWER ENGINEERING

The M. Eng programme provides advanced academic and professional training in Electrical Power Systems and Machines Engineering, preparing graduates for careers in research, industry and academia. The duration of the programme is a minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters for full-time students, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph. D) IN POWER ENGINEERING

The Ph. D programme is research-based, leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Power Engineering. Research areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Power Systems and Protection
  • Power Electronics and Drives
  • Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems
  • Smart Grid and Energy Management

For full-time students, the duration is a minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters. For part-time candidates, the duration is a minimum of eight (8) semesters and a maximum of fourteen (14) semesters.
