Visitor
The president and Commander in chief of the armed forces of the federation; President BOLA AHMED TINIBU (GCFR) is the visitor to the university as in all federal universities.
Chancellor
The current chancellor to Bayero university is His Royal Highness, Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari CFR, the Emir of Ilorin who serves as the ceremonial head of the University.
Pro-chancellor
The current Pro-Chancellor; Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd.) is in charge of policy formulation as well as general superintendence of the university.
Vice-chancellor
Since assuming office on 18th August 2025, Prof. Haruna Musa, Bayero University’s 12th Vice Chancellor, has set his leadership vision on strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering individual excellence, and deepening community engagement.
Members of the 15th Governing Council
The Council is the highest governing body of the University. Membership consists of 6 external members appointed by the Visitor; the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, 4 senate representatives, 2 congregation representatives and the Registrar as the Secretary.
Principal Officers
The principal officers assist the vice chancellor in the daily runnings of the University. According to the University enabling law, they are: the vice chancellor, deputy vice chancellors, bursar, librarian and the registrar.
University Congregation
The Congregation consists of all academic staff and all members of the administrative and technical staff holding degrees or its equivalent from any recognised University, with the Vice Chancellor as chairman.
In BUK tradition, the congregation plays a democratic role in voting for candidates contesting for Vice-Chancellorship, to show the level of Community acceptability of the candidates.
University Senate
The Senate is the supreme academic authority in the University. Comprises all professors, principal officers, provosts, deans, directors of academic centres or institutes and Heads of Departments.
University Management Committee (UMC)
Consist of all Principal Officers, provosts, deans and academic directors of the University. Chaired by the Vice Chancellor, and Director Establishment Matters (DEM) as the Secretary.
COMMITTEE OF DEANS AND DIRECTORS (CDD)
Consists of all deans and academic directors of the University, Chaired by the DVC (Administration) and Director, Establishment Matters (DEM) as the Secretary.
