ABOUT CREST

Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainability Transition (CREST), Bayero University, Kano is a world-class Research Centre established by Buk Governing council in August 2014. In its quest to promote investigations and learning in the field of renewable energy in the country, the Centre serves as a coordinating platform for research in renewable energy sources including biomass, nuclear and solar. The Centre has been recognised as the ‘TETFund Centre of Excellence (TCoE)’ in 2020. The vision of Centre is “to lead in renewable energy research and development in Nigeria” with a mission “committed to addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges through innovative research and development in renewable resources”. The Centre leverages on the abundance of renewable energy resources in Nigeria, West and Central Africa (WCA) coupled with the opportunities available, because of a very low share of renewable energy in the national energy mix of all the countries in the region.
