BUK Handball Team

As part of preparations for the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) preliminaries, the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Female Handball Team recorded an emphatic 15–5 victory over Government Girls Arabic Secondary School (GGASS), Tudun Murtala in a friendly match played as a warm-up fixture on Thursday, 16th October, 2025 at Old Campus Sports Complex.

The encounter, held ahead of the NUGA preliminary games scheduled for October 27–31, 2025, at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, showcased BUK’s readiness for the competition.

The first half was tightly contested, with the GGASS team putting up a spirited performance. Their key players, Fatima Yusuf and Harira, dictated the pace of play, while goalkeeper Nusaiba Yunus Adam made several impressive saves to keep her side in the game. The first half ended 5–4 in favour of BUK.

However, the second half was a different story, as BUK’s attacking prowess came to full display. Star player Achujbiat from the Faculty of Communication led the charge with a masterclass performance, scoring multiple goals and inspiring her teammates. Other standout performers included Fatima, Blessing, Florence, Lola, and goalkeeper Elizabeth, whose teamwork and determination sealed the commanding win for BUK.

Speaking after the match, BUK’s Head Coach, Auwalu Dankano, commended his players for their excellent display and praised the visiting GGASS team for their resilience. He encouraged the young GGASS players to remain focused on their academics, assuring them that BUK’s doors would be open for them to pursue higher education upon completing their secondary school studies.

With the victory, the BUK Female Handball Team looks set to build momentum ahead of the NUGA preliminaries, where they aim to make a strong impression and secure qualification for the national finals.
