Bayero University Kano (BUK) has officially unveiled its participation in the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) University Support and Sustainability Program (USSP), a landmark initiative designed to transform digital learning and research across Nigerian universities.

Through this project, BUK has been equipped with unlimited broadband internet connectivity, modern ICT infrastructure, and advanced learning tools to strengthen teaching, research, and administration. The intervention aligns with Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS 2020–2030), which seeks to accelerate broadband penetration and empower institutions with digital capacity.

Speaking at the launch, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano emphasized that the project represents a new era of digital transformation for the institution. “This initiative will not only enhance our students’ access to knowledge but also position BUK as a hub for cutting-edge telecommunications research and innovation,” he said.

As part of the program, BUK is also establishing an NCC Centre of Excellence in ICT and Telecommunications Research. The Centre will serve as a platform for:

  • Capacity building for students and faculty in ICT skills.
  • Modernized e-learning delivery and improved digital classrooms.
  • Research and development in telecommunications and broadband technologies.

The NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman commended BUK’s commitment to embracing digital transformation, noting that the project will help bridge the digital divide in academia and empower Nigerian universities to compete globally.

With this development, Bayero University Kano reaffirms its dedication to innovation, excellence, and digital empowerment, ensuring that students and researchers are equipped with the tools needed to thrive in the knowledge economy.
