Ahead of the preparation for reopening of universities, Bayero University has commenced the decontamination of its campuses as part of the protocols set aside by the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 with a view to ensuring safe and healthy environment.

On Wednesday, 28th October, 2020, Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN) in conjunction with Bayero University flagged-off the fumigation exercise across Old Campus, New Campus and residential houses of staff.

As part of its international linkage programme, MAAUN spearheaded the fumigation exercise and donated 10 mechanical hand-wash equipment to the University.

The Director, Linkages and Collaboration of MAAUN, Alhaji Bala M. Tukur, who made the donation on behalf of the President of the university, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, said the Niger University had set aside N50m on providing hand wash machines and engaging in decontamination of some selected Nigerian universities with a view to helping them complement their effort in the fight against covid-19 pandemic.

He explained that BUK and MAAUN had a fruitful relationship in that the latter had before the covid-19 pandemic earmarked N10m for a partnership with the former on the establishment of Medical Engineering Department.

In his remark, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, on behalf of Council, Senate, Management, staff and students expressed gratitude to MAAUN for the goodwill gesture, explaining that it would boost the relationship between the two Universities.

He said the exercise came at a time when the federal government has directed all Nigerian tertiary institutions to decontaminate their environment to be free of covid-19 ahead of reopening, saying that the collaboration between the two universities would continue to wax stronger.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the University would add more mechanical hand wash machines to complement those donated by MAAUN in order to cover all the campuses, expressing satisfaction with the fumigation exercise being carried out.

He said the equipment would be judiciously utilized, pledging that Bayero University to assist MAAUN in whatever capacity possible.
