“Since the establishment of Animal Science Department in the Faculty of Agriculture in 2001, the academics, for about 2 decades have been committed to training and educating high-quality animal scientists as well as performing relevant researches to serve the livestock and poultry industries. The department of Animal Science is one of the main departments providing the nation with professionally qualified graduates specializing in undergraduate study in the field of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Products and Processing, Ruminant Nutrition, Pasture and Range Management, Monogastric Nutrition, Animal Physiology and Reproduction. Animal Science is the field of study that includes all the aspects of production (feeding, breeding and selection) of farm animal species as well as the products from these animals (meat, fibres, eggs, dairy products). The B.Agric five-year degree programme, is therefore, focused on the aforementioned major disciplines. The mission and vision of the Department of Animal Science is to provide education through the development, integration, and dissemination of knowledge of animals used mainly for food. We have a proud tradition of training outstanding students in the animal, meat and pasture sciences. The Department has always presented high-quality Graduates of Animal Science for induction/professional registration into the Nigeria Institute of Animal Science since the commencement of the programme under the Act No 26 of 2007. The Department gained full accreditation status by the institute in the year 2016. The department of Animal Science is proud of its rich heritage of animal science education and research.
