BRIEF HISTORY OF BUK FM
The station got its license to operate as a campus Radio with frequency 98.9MHZ, in February 2009. It then started transmission with Fabricated transmitter constructed by the Faculty of Engineering of the University on 12 July 2009, but due to problem encountered with the transmitter, suspended the transmission.
The station resumed full transmission in August, 2012, after the University acquired 500Watts transmitter. The station commenced transmission at Eight O’clock in the morning and closed by Six O’clock daily. Utilizing 300 watts out of five hundred watts, and covering at least Twenty Local Government areas out of forty four in kano state.
Initially, the station had only a Manager and Engineers and was running programmes by the students only. Presently the station has a new building with fully digital equipment at Faculty of Communication BUK new site. In February, 2020 the university management appointed Dr. Suleiman Yar’Adua as Director of BUK FM Radio station with the station utilizing 300 watts out of two thousand watts, therefore covering the whole forty four local government areas in the state and sometimes signal reached neighbouring state.
The station produces programmes that borders on Education, Entertainment, Sports, Agricultures, Social activities and lot of others.
