The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has unveiled that preparation has reached an advanced stage for the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Mambayya House to commence a short certificate training programme on leadership and democratic governance.
Professor Sagir disclosed this on Saturday, December 4, 2021 during a public lecture titled: Democracy, Good Governance and the Question of National Integration in Nigeria, organized to mark the 21st Anniversary of Mambayya House.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the programme would focus on political party administration, election management and administration, lawmaking and legislative process.
According to him, the short training is designed to develop the capacity and skills of Nigerian political leaders, public office holders, election managers and political party executives among others.
He said Bayero University is proud of Mambayya House considering the numerous achievements the Centre has recorded in the area of research and training in the last two decades of its existence.
In his remarks, the Director, Mambayya House, Prof. Isma’ila M. Zango said the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Mambayya House, was founded in November 2000 as a research and training unit of Bayero University, Kano, in the premises vacated by the defunct Centre for Democratic Studies (CDS), which was established by the Federal Government in 1989.
He said for 2 decades and a year the centre has conducted 78 Public Lectures, 29 Researches, 85 Trainings and 72 Publications.
According to him, the public lecture delivered by Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was carefully chosen and informed by the desire to closely monitor political events and respond appropriately to the yearnings and aspirations of our dear country.
However, he decried that the centre’s vision of becoming a leading research centre was hindered by worn-out structures. He therefore called for hands of support and assistance in funding the remodeling project of Mambayya House.
