The Bayero University’s 55th Congregation Meeting held on Thursday, 30th December, 2021 expressed commendation to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas on taking pro-active security measures across the campuses of the University. The Congregation noted that the steps taken would strengthen the security situation.
The Congregation, however, reiterated the need for deployment of technology in securing the University environment.
The Congregation also commended the University Management’s concern to improve the general welfare of staff and students, citing promotion exercise and the employment of 125 students to serve as part time workers, as well as provision of municipal services as clear examples.
According to the resolution of the Congregation, members further hailed the University Management for working tirelessly towards securing interventions for continuous development of the University.
In his remark earlier, the Chairman of the Congregation and Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Abbas , spoke on administrative matters, academic activities, financial issues, welfare of staff and students, as well as physical developments.
The Vice Chancellor said the University management had sought the intervention from Federal Ministry of Works for the intervention of 3.3 km road project, two 11 KV and one 33KV transformers, as well as pedestrian bridge opposite New Campus gate. He noted that the management secured another intervention from the National Assembly for road construction/rehabilitation of 3.5 km, construction of Centre for Information Technology and a befitting School of Postgraduate Studies.
On conference attendance and fellowship, the Vice Chancellor told the Congregation that from April to November 2021, a total of 19 staff had been approved for study fellowship in Nigeria while 17 others got approval for international fellowship.
He said 19 academic staff got approval for post Doctoral Fellowship in Nigeria while 6 others for international, adding that 76 non-teaching staff were given approval to pursue their study fellowship in 2021 including 9 staff approved for PhD.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the gallant effort of the two Africa Centres of Excellence in the University, Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) and Africa Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) on their recent performance at mid-term review of the ACE project in which the two centres were rated high in Nigeria.
“With 48% achievement of the entire project deliverables, CDA was rated one among all 17 Nigerian ACEs, while ACEPHAP with 37% was rated third overall and the first among the new centres in Nigeria. We are expecting the two centres to get additional funding after mid-term assessments,” said the Vice Chancellor.
