New BUK Registrar

The 15th Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano, on Thursday, 22nd August, 2024 appointed Haruna Aliyu as the 7th substantive Registrar of the University. Haruna Aliyu has succeeded Malam Jamilu Salim, who died on 26th April, 2023.

Presenting the letter of appointment to Haruna Aliyu at the Council Chamber, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, congratulated him for being found worthy of the appointment and charged him to display a high sense of professionalism and administrative competence.

The letter says: The Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano in the exercise of powers conferred on it by Section 4 of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) Amendment Act 2003, at its meeting held on Thursday, 22 August, 2024, considered the submission from the Selection Board and hereby approved your appointment as the Registrar of Bayero University, Kano for a period of Five (5) years with effect from Thursday, 22 August, 2024.”

Haruna Aliyu served as Registrar, Skyline University, Kano from April 2021 to May 2023.

While at Skyline University, Aliyu led the University to Nigeria Team for the accreditation of 11 programmes; led and coordinated the University Team for participation in the 2021 Nigerian Universities Ranking, which placed Skyline University Nigeria as Number 16th out of 113th Nigerian Universities and number 8th out of 47th Private Universities participated in the NUC ranking system of Nigerian Universities.

He coordinated the successful review of Curriculum in line with the BMAS, established the process of Admission through CAPS in line with JAMB policy, updated the curriculum in line with the BMAS provisions, as well as led the University Team for the NUC resource verification exercise.

Aliyu was voted as the 2023 Skyline University’s Man of the Year. Until his appointment, he was a Deputy Registrar in the Vice Chancellor’s Office.

Recall that after the death of Malam Jamilu Salim, Bayero University appointed Hajiya Amina Umar Abdullahi to serve in the acting capacity, a position she held since 5th May, 2023.
