Bayero University, Kano (BUK) inducted 39 graduates from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, class of 2023 held on Thursday at the university’s old campus in Kano.

The event underscored the graduates’ role in advancing healthcare and combating the menace of drug abuse in Kano State and Nigeria at large.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, urged the new pharmacists to make good use of their qualifications, particularly in light of the rising drug abuse problem in the state.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran urged the inductees to be exemplary ambassadors of Bayero University Kano.

“The certificate you have received can be used either positively or negatively. I urge you to abide by the professional guidelines of your field,” the governor cautioned.

On his part, BUK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Abbas Adamu emphasized that learning does not end with graduation.

You are entering a dynamic field that is constantly evolving. You must continuously adapt, innovate, and contribute to new discoveries,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of research, innovation, and technology transfer, noting, “It is in this spirit that I encourage you to focus not just on your careers, but also on shaping the future of healthcare.”

Professor Abbas reminded the graduates that in the modern era of personalized medicine, the role of pharmacy has expanded. “Pharmacy is no longer just about dispensing medications, but about creating solutions,” he added.

As the inductees took their professional oath, the Registrar of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, Pharm. Ibrahim Baba Shehu, represented by Dr. Anthony Idoko, reminded them of their responsibility to uphold the ethics of the profession.
