Bayero University, Kano (BUK) is set to host its highly anticipated 39th Convocation Ceremony in a staggered format from Wednesday, February 12, to Saturday, February 15, 2025. The grand occasion will witness the graduation of thousands of students, the conferment of honorary degrees, and a thought-provoking convocation lecture.
Announcing the event at a press briefing on Monday, February 10, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, revealed that a total of 4,404 graduands will receive their Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates on the opening day. The celebrations will continue on Thursday, February 13, when another 4,367 graduates from seven faculties will be conferred with their degrees, including 176 First Class holders, 275 PhDs, 2,590 Master’s degrees, and 535 Postgraduate Diplomas.
“The convocation marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of our students, and we are excited to celebrate their academic achievements,” Prof. Abbas stated, highlighting the university’s pride in the success of its graduates and their future contributions to society.
A highlight of the convocation is the Convocation Lecture, scheduled for Friday, February 14, themed “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to National Development.” The lecture will be delivered by Khalil Sulaiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, with Chief Uche Jeoffrey Nnaji, Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, serving as Chairman.
The grand finale on Saturday, February 15, will be a momentous occasion as the university confers Honorary Doctorate Degrees on Colonel Sani Bello (Rtd.) and Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano for their outstanding contributions to society. Additionally, BUK will bestow the prestigious Emeritus Professor titles on three distinguished retired scholars: Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, Professor Julius Afolabi Falola, and Professor Musa Mohammed Borodo, in recognition of their invaluable academic legacies.
