Community leaders from neighborhoods surrounding Bayero University, Kano (BUK) have expressed deep appreciation for the university’s impactful programs, particularly its scholarship schemes for indigent students, admission opportunities for their wards, and the conducive environment provided for local businesses within the university.
The commendation came during an annual interactive session held on Friday, March 21, 2025, between the university’s management and community leaders. The leaders praised the visionary leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, lauding his commitment to youth development through quality education and his inclusive approach to community engagement.
While acknowledging BUK’s commendable initiatives, the community heads urged the university to expand its employment opportunities for their teeming youth, emphasizing the need for further economic empowerment.
In response, Professor Abbas reaffirmed the significance of the annual forum, describing it as a crucial platform for fostering dialogue and strengthening the relationship between the university and its neighboring communities. He highlighted the role of community leaders in addressing societal challenges, particularly issues such as youth restiveness, phone snatching, and thuggery.
He revealed that BUK has assembled a dedicated research team to investigate the root causes of these problems and propose sustainable solutions.
The Vice-Chancellor further reassured the community leaders of BUK’s longstanding commitment to their welfare, noting that the university has consistently provided employment opportunities, facilitated student admissions, supported local businesses, and contributed to resolving community challenges. He emphasized that quality education remains a key solution to youth unemployment and social vices, urging community leaders to play an active role in guiding their youth towards meaningful development.
Earlier, the Registrar, Malam Haruna Aliyu welcomed the community heads and said it was part of the annual interaction usually done during the month of Ramadhan.
