14th NUSSA Games BUK 2025
The University of Jos emerged as the overall champion at the 14th edition of the Nigeria University Staff Sports Association (NUSSA) Games, hosted by Bayero University, Kano. With a stunning haul of 13 medals—7 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze—the institution claimed the top spot on the medals table.
Closely trailing Jos was Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which secured 6 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Federal University, Dutsinma, came in third place, collecting 4 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals.
The highlight of the grand finale held on Friday, 30th May 2025, was the thrilling football final between Federal University of Transport, Daura and Federal University, Dutsinma. After a 1-1 draw at full time, FUT Daura clinched the gold medal with a 3-1 victory in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, at the closing ceremony was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Aliyu Mu’azu, who congratulated all 37 universities that participated in the Games. He praised their commitment, describing it as a sign of the respect and recognition that BUK enjoys in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
He also thanked the Vice-Chancellors and institutional representatives for fostering inter-university relationships, while specifically acknowledging Prof Umar Adamu, Vice-Chancellor of FUT Daura, for personally motivating his team to their football victory. Professor Abbas further commended Professor Musa Garba Yakasai, Chairman of NUSSA and Sports Consultative Committee of BUK, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, BUK’s Director of Sports, and the entire Local Organizing Committee for their dedication and professionalism in delivering a smooth and successful tournament.
Speaking after the football final, Prof Umar Adamu lauded both finalists for their display of talent and sportsmanship. He highlighted that the NUSSA Games were designed to foster mutual collaboration, friendship, and exchange of ideas among university staff, affirming that the 14th edition had successfully met these objectives.
In his remarks, Professor Musa Garba Yakasai, Chairman of BUK Sports Consultative Committee, noted that this was the first edition of the Games since 2018, when the University of Ilorin hosted. He applauded the BUK Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sagir Adamu Abbas, for ensuring that all contingents enjoyed decent accommodation, steady water supply, and round-the-clock security during their stay.
