KHAIRUN

The Management of Bayero University, Kano, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, on Monday paid a thank-you visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Professor Abdulrashid Garba, and the University's management in appreciation of the colloquium organised in honour of the 12th Vice-Chancellor of BUK. The two-day colloquium, conference and book presentation, held on 18 and 19 August 2026, celebrated Professor Musa's first year in office.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Haruna Musa said the delegation was in KHAIRUN on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, students and the entire Bayero University community to express profound appreciation for the honour accorded to the University through the colloquium. He described the gesture as a demonstration of the strong relationship between the two institutions and reaffirmed BUK's commitment to supporting KHAIRUN in its academic and institutional development.

"Our major mission today is to express our sincere appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, the Governing Council, the Board of Trustees, the Management and the entire KHAIRUN community for organising the recently concluded colloquium in my honour and in honour of Bayero University, Kano. On behalf of our staff, students and the entire BUK community, we are here to say thank you for what you have done and to reassure you that BUK, as a mentor institution to KHAIRUN, will continue to discharge its responsibilities diligently," Professor Musa said.

The Vice-Chancellor commended KHAIRUN for choosing the theme, "Transformative Science and Technology Education for Sustainable National Development," describing it as timely and relevant to the current realities of higher education in Nigeria. He noted that the colloquium attracted wide participation from academics and stakeholders across the country, many of whom commended KHAIRUN for the quality of organisation, hospitality and the innovative focus of the programme. Professor Musa also assured KHAIRUN of Bayero University's continued collaboration and support, particularly in the areas of programme accreditation and quality assurance, in line with emerging Federal Government reforms in the university system.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, described the visit as another great honour for his institution. He said the relationship between KHAIRUN and Bayero University is that of a child and a father, stressing that while a child is expected to appreciate the father, the father should not necessarily thank the child for fulfilling its responsibility. He expressed profound gratitude to Bayero University for its invaluable mentorship and support since the establishment of KHAIRUN.

Professor Garba reaffirmed KHAIRUN's commitment to sustaining its partnership with Bayero University in both academic and administrative matters. He also commended the BUK staff members who served on various committees for the successful organisation of the colloquium, describing their dedication and commitment as instrumental to its success. He further informed the Vice-Chancellor that arrangements were underway to publish selected papers presented at the colloquium in a scholarly journal currently being developed by members of the organising team.

It would be recalled that KHAIRUN organised the colloquium, conference and book presentation in honour of Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, to commemorate his first anniversary as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to higher education.
