It was a historic day at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on Monday, 18th August, 2025, as Professor Haruna Musa officially assumed duty as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the institution, succeeding Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas. The colourful handing-over ceremony, attended by members of the University community and stakeholders, marked a new chapter in the life of BUK.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Musa pledged to reposition Bayero University as one of Nigeria’s top-ranking universities and a globally recognized centre of excellence.

In a landmark achievement, Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has successfully resolved its decades-long land dispute with the Danzakara community, bringing an end to years of tension and paving the way for stronger ties with its neighbors.

The breakthrough, which comes just days before the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, completes his five-year tenure, was facilitated by the intervention of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Delivering the 55th Professorial Inaugural Lecture of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Mahmoud Ibrahim Daneji has called for the urgent formulation of a comprehensive national legislative framework on agricultural extension and advisory services. He emphasized that such legislation should clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders, including federal, state and local governments, research institutions, farmer-based organizations, financial institutions, NGOs, and the private sector.
